Employers added 169.000 jobs in August, as the labor market
continues to show solid growth despite substantial federal spending cuts
and a payroll tax increase.
The unemployment rate,
which is calculated from a different survey of households, fell to 7.3%
from 7.4%, the Labor Department said Friday. That's the lowest since
December 2008. However, the dip came because 312,000 Americans stopped
working or looking for work--not because of a rise in employment.

More people stopped looking for work than got hired. Do you think that's a good trend? Not to mention the downward revisions for June and July. Naturally, the stock market went up on bad news because it gives the Federal Reserve more pause to put off pulling the punch bowl away.
America could create millions of new jobs if we got busy fully utilizing the unbelievable supplies of natural gas that we have. Fed Ex and UPS are beginning to convert their truck fleets to LNG fuels. Many major municipalities have done so or are in the process of doing so.We would have to create jobs to extract LNG build the pipelines to carry it, build the service stations to dispense it, I could go on and on. The administration just keeps punting. You can't score touchdowns by punting, and some point you need to go on offense.
