"My credibility is not on the line. The international community’s
credibility is on the line and America and Congress’s credibility is on
the line because we give lip service to the notion that these
international norms are important."
President Obama, Stockholm September 4, 2013
So said the President yesterday. Unfortunately, he was dead serious about this comment. If Congress doesn't give me the approval to act it's their fault. If Russia says nothing it's Putin's fault. If the U.N. does nothing then it's at fault too. But nooooooooooo, not me!
In a way it is truly tragic to watch this man come unglued. There was so much promise at the beginning and so little to show for it now. A man who was going to heal our divides has now driven wedge after wedge into almost every important issue. Don't get me wrong; the Republicans have been fairly contemptible as well with some of their shenanigans, but the President has consistently demonstrated his contempt for Congress and his inability to work with them. Having grown lonely in the corner he painted himself into, he now insists on having company. Good grief, what a mess.
